Matchday 3 Review – Premier League

Matchday 3 has now finished and there are many talking points with some teams getting their deserved win, while some still struggling.

We start off with the only game on Friday Ipswich vs Liverpool, with it being only Andoni Iraola’s third Premier League game with the reds they still needed a win to convince fans after the transfer window and within 10 minutes Isak got a brace, being the much better team in the first half. Though in the second half a very different game with Liverpool sitting back for most of it settling for a comfortable 2-0 win for the Reds. Their signing look more and more promising with players like Victor Munoz very much becoming a solid winger for them and their new signing Bradley Barcola getting minutes for them looking very promising for the future. Ipswich had there chances as well and though their last two games have ended up with a 5-2 loss and now a 2-0 loss their players like Abdul Fatawu looked amazing during the game whipping in multiple crosses just unlucky for no end product. When Ipswich get comfortable within the league and get their players connected with one another they could cause upsets.

Newcastle faced Bournemouth and both teams come out of this probably unhappy as in the first 9 minutes Marcus Tavernier put The Cherries 1-0 up and later on in the first half an unlucky own goal by Malick Thiaw saw then up by two. But only minutes after Harvey Barnes scored an absolute stunning strike to get one back before the half. It stayed the same scoreline all the way up until the 88th minute where Jacob Ramsey equalised for Newcastle finishing the game at a 2-2 draw. This game could of been one by either side due to Newcastle had much more possession but Bournemouth had 9 more shots than them and 3 more on target.

Brentford was at home to Sunderland and though ending up a 1-1 draw Sunderland having two disallowed goals looked the better team but in the end Brentford were first to score with Vitaly Janelt and even after the two goals for Sunderland being disallowed they still got a penalty and scored in the 82nd minute a tough game for both in the end with stats looking almost completely the same for both.

Now Tottenham travelled to Nottingham Forest and Tottenham needed a much needed good performance and though drawing 0-0 they looked poor with not even having a shot on target all game and very lucky with a goal disallowed against them due to handball with how Spurs are performing though they got a point here they need to win next time out against Everton. As for Nottingham Forest with a draw last week against Liverpool a win here against a poor form Tottenham was probably needed for them but a draw again with Villa next could go either way.

Manchester City versus Coventry had everyone think a 4 or 5 goal domination for Man City though after Haaland opening the scoring it stopped there and Coventry nearly was able to cause an upset here. Though Man City had the domination in possession same shots on target with Coventry and only few more shots they made it hard for themselves but still three points. For Coventry this will be a tough season for them being in the Prem it could take a few months to feel prepared to take on some of the bigger teams though a game like this could really prove they can cause the occasional upset.

Fulham against Crystal Palace started off with a goal by Josh King in the 11th minute and took to the latter end of the first half before goals started coming with Tyrick Mitchell getting his first in the 35 minute followed by Cesar Palacois for Fulham ending the first half 2-1 up for Fulham though Tyrick Mitchell got his second in the 54th followed by Ben Chillwell winning the game for Palace in a dramatic 3-2 win and sadly both teams need heavy work and for Fulham that’s unlucky with 21 shots compared to Palace’s 8 and the big thing here is both teams need work on there defensive tactics for Fulham all three goals being scored by left backs and also for palace to allow that many shots.

Another draw here as well between Brighton and Leeds with Leeds actually looking the better team though with less shots with Bogle scoring first in the 15th minute then all the way to the 71st minute with Luka Vuskovic levelling to finish the game 1-1 and both teams also with struggles but with them they just need more experience with they players.

A surprising scoreline was Hull vs Aston Villa and Aston Villa dominating with 76% possession but wasn’t enough to break through The Tigers. Hull City in these first three game have shocked many fans now sitting 3rd in the table and their wins versus Man Utd and Coventry are big wins and look to be a surprising team this year. Aston Villa are surprising just at the other end, their players look brilliant and against Arsenal they nearly was able to level it their but sadly not enough last and not enough this week.

Man Utd played Everton and Bryan Mbuemo opening the score with a beautiful goal to lead them into the second half . But in the 83rd minute Tyrique George smashing a goal near side of Lammens levelled it up until Sesko scores a header unlucky for Pickford to roll in and looked done but with the last kick of the game Ainsley Maitlend-Niles outside the box curled it top corner to seal a 2-2 in a crazy ending. This game shows some cracks for Man Utd and getting a loss to Hull a big win to Ipswich and a draw to Everton all teams they probably could beat shows inconsistency.

The last game was Arsenal vs Chelsea and a spicy derby that produced and with Morgan Rogers scoring the first goal in the 2nd minute look like a tough game for Arsenal but with a goal by Havertz in the 25th minute and a great goal in the 50th with a dummy by Havertz to let Odegaard finish the game 2-1. Though right at the end Estavao with nearly a superb goal just saved by Raya. Arsenal again with a solid win for the reigning champions. Chelsea though now conceding 7 goals in 3 games and look great attacking but defending looks like there’s multiple cracks.
